CR7 GIVEN THE AWARD FOR BEING THE BEST PORTUGUESE GOAL SCORER IN HISTORY

Cristiano Ronaldo was presented with an award while on international duty with Portugal.

The Portuguese FA gave the award to a proud Ronaldo, for being the country’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Ronaldo is the all-time international record scorer, with 117 goals to his name. This is 70 more than Pauleta, the second highest Portuguese scorer.

Ronaldo wrote on Instagram “Proud to win the mmol award for the best national scorer for the country that I love! Thanks again to all my teammates, coaches, my family, friends and my fans who helped me to achieve this great achievement! Together we will continue to break all possible records! Thank you.”

The Manchester United star was keen to make clear that he is far from done. During his award presentation on stage in Lisbon, he declared his intent to play for his country beyond the 2022 World Cup.

Ronaldo was quoted by MaisFutebol: “I’m in a team with a lot of young players, with an extraordinary future and I want to be part of this World Cup 2022 and Euro 2024.”

It’s possible Ronaldo could even line up at World Cup 2026 too, it’s hard to put it past him, but he’s not looking that far forward just yet.

Ronaldo has to resolve his future at the club level ahead of 2024. His contract at United expires next summer, although the Red Devils have an opportunity to extend it by a further year – if all parties agree.
